Common questions

Intruder alarms — what you need to know

What grade of intruder alarm do I need?

Grading is determined by a risk assessment of the premises — the value of assets, vulnerability of the site, and likelihood of attack. Grade 2 covers the majority of commercial premises. Grade 3 applies to higher-risk sites and carries additional requirements around tamper detection and signalling. Police response involves separate considerations including alarm confirmation, a unique reference number (URN), and in practice requires installation by an NSI or SSAIB accredited company. We advise on appropriate grading during the site survey.

Will my insurer accept the alarm?

Most commercial insurers specify that intruder alarms are installed to a recognised standard such as EN 50131, and some require installation by an NSI or SSAIB accredited company. We can advise on your insurer's specific requirements before proceeding.

Can you connect my alarm to a monitoring centre?

Yes. We can arrange connection to an Alarm Receiving Centre as part of the installation. Monitoring options include keyholder response and police response, depending on your site and insurer requirements.

Can you take over an existing alarm system?

In many cases, yes. We can inspect an existing installation and determine whether it can be brought up to current standards and maintained, or whether replacement is more cost-effective.
